Run Report ....
Bungendore and Canberra (AGM), 15-17 March 2019 ....
Under cloudy skies in Sydney, Bob, Ron and Robyn met up at Leo’s Diner and headed south to meet-up with Annie and Steve at Sally’s Corner.
We all headed-off south to clearing skies and stopped-in at Goulburn for fuel and lunch. All fed and watered we headed towards Canberra turning-off the Federal Highway south of Lake George for the pleasant run across to the historical Carrington Inn located in the delightful village of Bungendore ……… our base for the weekend’s activities.
We were met at the Inn by Mike and Gabby and once settled-in, headed over to the Inn’s outdoor bar area for some cool afternoon refreshments and nibbles. Rose and Harold joined us here and also by our newest member Bob and his partner Norma. Welcome Bob and Norma and we trust you enjoyed your first club weekend away with the club. Rob and Sharon arrived just in time for our group to head over to the Inn’s restaurant for dinner and a relaxing night. Pete and Angie arrived after dinner and we all settled-in at Bob’s room for a nightcap, a perfect way to end our first day.
In a relaxing start to the day, our group cruised over to Canberra for a visit to the Australia War Memorial. Bob organized a guided tour and we were treated to an awesome visit with our memorial guide Patrick. After the guided tour, we spent the remainder of our time checking out the rest of the Memorial’s amazing displays at our own pace before meeting at Poppy’s Café for a great early afternoon lunch. With lunch done we headed back to Bungendore where we were met by Gabby who spent some time at the Fyshwick markets and, Pete and Angie who had stayed behind to complete a ‘leisurely’ 40km mountain bike ride to Lake George and back.
After a relaxing afternoon and a nice swim at the local pool by some of our members, dinner was a short walk away at the Lake George Hotel. The hotel has a lovely bistro area, and the meals where very good. Unfortunately, a mix-up by the bistro staff left one of our tables with a delay waiting for their meals, which put a little dampener on the evening.
A relaxed AGM then followed the next morning under the beautiful skies around the Inn’s outdoor area. Secretary Rose chaired the meeting, which saw all the current committee members retain their positions. At this point I would like to personally thank all the committee for their on-going efforts, and commitment to our great club.
AGM completed, it was time to say goodbye to Mike and Gabby, as the rest of us headed back home via Tarago and Goulburn for lunch. It’s always great to get out on the road with friends in our wonderful Toranas.
Thanks to everyone who attended this run to Bungendore, and another great AGM ....
Cheers Steve.
