Run Report ....
Batemans Bay (AGM), 21-23 March 2014 ....
Friday morning saw a meet-up with Bob, Lizard and Les at Leo's Diner and the departure was official at 10:30hrs towards Batemans Bay via Goulburn. Normally the run from Goulburn to the Kings Highway turn-off can invite some spirited motoring but this was all constrained by an accompanying Highway Patrol unit. However, the gastronomic delights of the 'Loaded Dog' at Tarago, enticed the officer to abandon his observation of the law abiding Torana drivers who were then set free to do what they do best.
Lunch was enjoyed at Feral Capital (Braidwood) after which the famous Clyde Mountain was tackled whilst dodging ridiculously slow Fords and extremely fast Subarus. With our destination of Coach House Marina Resort, just south of Batemans Bay township reached, rehydration was due and a timely arrival by Mike and Gabby with the 'groceries' saw this end achieved. Harold and Rose joined us shortly thereafter, followed by Steve and Tina. So, we were nine and the issues of the world were in for a workout.
Dinner that evening at the Catalina Golf Club opposite was excellent with a special big tick for the signature Barramundi dish. Then back to the world's problems and the unveiling of the mud-map for saturdays activities.
The AGM was conducted earlyish Saturday am; issues were dealt with; reports tabled and the 2014/15 committee elected. Basically, the Club's finances are sound, membership is within the target range and the run calendar is all but full for the year. Details will be revealed in Mdme secretary's minutes. Then it was playtime.
An enthusiastic drive south to beautiful Narooma for lunch, via coffee (in what must have been the country's busiest cafe), at Moruya. Our meal was quickly despatched at the waterfront 'Quarterdeck' restaurant on Narooma's riverside and the party was split between the options, of visiting the delightful, boutique Mogo Zoo or engaging in a little retail therapy at the nearby craft shops. Both endeavours contributed handsomely towards the local economy.
Following rehydration back at the resort, (being a tourist is thirsty work - make no mistake), a D.I.Y. dinner at the great BBQ facilities adjacent to our digs saw a huge amount of dead animal and accoutrements consumed along with an appropriate measure of refreshment and tale telling, car issue sorting and general sound advice for the world's rulers and ratbags.
The issue of the missing contents of Steve's 'Southo' bottle caused a little concern until some eagle-eye in the search party found it hiding in a large bottle of coke.
Sunday morning required a respectful eye on the weather whilst again mustering the resources of the trusty BBQ to provide that most basic of car enthusiasts' nourishment:- the egg and bacon sando. Very nice they were indeed.
So with goodbyes, another chapter in the legend that is NSW Torana Club Inc. came to a conclusion and the start of another Club year begins.
Present: Liz and Les, Bob, Rose and Harold, Steve and Tina and Mike and Gabby.
