Christmas Function, 04 December, 2010 ....

The annual Christmas function, preceded by a committee meeting, was held at the Winston Hills Hotel (WWH). There was a good roll-up, presenting a great opportunity for many members to catch up with each other and celebrate the festive season. Since it’s refurbishment, the WHH has proven to be a congenial setting with good food and a great selection of refreshments.

A couple of new members turned up to introduce themselves and members made them very welcome to the club; Elizabeth 'Lizzy' York and Steve 'Muz' Axisa. Lizzy was accompanied by her sister Nicole and mum and dad Kathleen and Andrew. Steve’s wife Tina is a keen Toranaphile owning what sounds like a top SS hatch and we will see her as a new member shortly. It is great to see new faces.

There was the customary raffle with kind prize donations from Bob Byrnes and Elizabeth 'Lizard' Best, Mike Velo and Greg 'Hawko' Hawkins won Bob’s wash bucket kits. A steward's investigation cleared any thought of fixing for the latter winner. Nicole York and Gabby Holland won Lizards painting and 'Torana' shortbread biscuits respectively.

Mike Holland presented the club’s new summer-weight polos which have a colour scheme sympathetic with our dress shirts. Members who wish to acquire them are asked to confirm their sizes, name and embroidery requirements to Mike. As the first batch is to be customised with personal names, it is logical that they must be paid for in advance. Orders for this batch close on 21st January 2011.

The generous spirit of Christmas overflowed with the absent treasurer bravely putting-up a bar tab that coincided perfectly with consumption and our lovely secretary, Lizard, presented each attendee with a parcel of homemade shortbreads (how good’s that?).

A special thanks also to 'Big Bad Bob' Byrnes for his untiring efforts to organise and keep everyone up to speed on the 'do'. Well done.
