Run Report ....
O'Connell Hotel, O'Connell, 26 April 2009 ....
The day started in bright sunshine at our meeting point. The group departed right on time at 9:00am out onto the M4 Motorway and headed west towards the Blue Mountains. As we passed Faulconbridge, Joe and Catherine joined-in to complete the convoy of nine cars.
Despite the road works and heavy traffic we had a reasonable run to Lithgow where a fuel stop was made and Rob picked-up Leanne. As we headed to Bathurst it started to rain even heavily at times. James’s LJ lost a wiper blade (didn’t think an LJ went that fast). We stopped at the next servo for repairs to the LJ, then it was on to Kelso where we turned left to the O’Connell pub. This part of the trip was great as the road was very Torana friendly.
On arriving at the pub we found that it was still closed as it doesn’t open until 12:00. It was raining lightly with very strong cold winds. Once opened we ordered lunch straight away and they gave us our own eating area with a beautiful log fire to warm everybody up. The service was good and the food great with abundant helpings and before long everyone was tucking into their meals.
After lunch we departed and headed for Lake Lyle, a great picture opportunity spot for the Toranas. This road was Torana country and we travelled through the township of Tarana. As we left Tarana a rare de-restricted zone sign was spotted. A few little railway bridge crossings and causeways kept everyone’s attention.
We said our goodbyes at Lake Lyle and returned to Lithgow and then home via the Bells Line Of Road. The weather slowly improved and at Richmond it was fine and sunny. A welcome to Ian and Cindi on their first outing.
