Run Report ....

Goulburn, 22 June 2008 ....

The run to Goulburn started at Leo’s Diner in fine weather with a good attendance of 12 participants and a brief visit by Dean Byrnes (had to get his Torana out of dad’s way). This made a few of the VW club, who were also meeting at the diner, a bit worried as he entered Leo’s as they thought one of their member’s had woke up to themselves and got a decent motor!

After a bit of a meet and greet we moved off along the freeway for a steady drive. We were joined along the way by a prospective new member Rob and his son Liam driving a hatchback Torrie at Pheasant’s Nest, continuing towards our destination whilst greeting over the radios. Shortly after the Torana of Rob F started playing up and was left going slowly going backwards from the rest of the pack, a call to the group resulted in them pulling over to wait whilst Scott returned to see if assistance could be provided (this is a good thing within our club we do not leave a member stranded when possible). Rob got it going again with a hit and tap of the carby.

On arrival in Goulburn the group proceeded to the Brewery to meet up with Mike H and John B, not a good thing to leave this pairing at one of these places. After a brief walk around we then went to the Bakery Café for our meals and were joined by Gabby Holland. After a good lunch the group went there various directions with the majority heading back along the freeway to Pheasants Nest, the dispersal point.

It turned out to be a worse day for Rob F after he left Goulburn to visit his former stomping ground of Crookwell. He left to return through the country side via Oberon to Lithgow where misfortune struck again with his Torrie pushing the slave cylinder of the clutch completely out to engage the clutch leaving him stranded 19kms out of the nearest town without gears. This was where country hospitality came to the fore meeting several cars of generous country people. It ended up being a call to a tilt tray operator to return it to his (Rob) garage for repair work to be done after the fault was located.

Thanks to Andrew Squires for scouting this run. Hopefully a good day was enjoyed (except Rob) by those attending: Scott, Leanne Davidson, Les Wilson, Andrew Squires, with Andrew and Torrie, Rob and Leanne Farnsworth, Michael Muller, Reno Emanuelle, James Davidson and Natalie, Bob Byrnes, Mike Holland and John Boller, with Gabby.

Apologies: Lance Haslewood, Mick, Lisa and Cody Aldridge, Michael Velo, Greg and Lexa Hawkins.
