Run Report ....
Hawkesbury River Cruise, 19 November 2006 ....
Well how do some members of the NSWTC relax after a strenuous day of supporting the Club at a very worthwhile charity? Well, they start off by commandeering Larry Sullivan’s beautiful Sea Ray and hitting the high seas!
The morning started off under beautiful skies at Fenwicks Marina in Brooklyn where Club members, Larry Sullivan, Mick Aldridge, Lisa Kelly, Greg and Lexa Hawkins and Michelle and Mark Warren, all watched as the “Wanderer” was refuelled taking on board close to 500 litres! Wow, we thought Torries had big, thirsty tanks – our Torries have nothing on this puppy! After loading all the day’s consumables, including the beverages, on board it was time to hit the high seas, well maybe not so high, just a sight seeing voyage of the local area.
Isn’t it marvellous and a little bit scary what a couple of drinks and the hot sun will do to the memories of some people, as past fortunes (or misfortunes!) were recounted? This included certain Club members who shall remain nameless (however, try putting a name to the story):
One has a penchant for dancing with and picking up 'ex-Wild Boys Afloat' who are bare chested and in leather pants (no, not the Pres.)!
One who actively stalked another and stole them from their date for a night of wild passion on a shag carpeted abode!
One recounting his experience of being treated to an invitation of a lap dance of sorts!
Plenty of other tall stories along the above lines, however, seeing that the NSWTC is rated PG, these have been left out until we can have a secure section on the website!
The gastronomic delights were started off with a taste of Lance Haslewood’s Alagappa beef curry (check out the website under ‘Good Gen’) – yum, yum! This was followed with an assortment of cheeses and dips. Both of these courses were interrupted by the consumption of various forms of alcohol, namely whatever was at hand!
Greg and Michelle braved the icy water for a dip, followed by Mark who was a little hesitant (whoosy!) at first, but seemed to enjoy himself once in. Mark’s withdrawal symptoms from fast machinery following the sale of his A9X some time ago, saw him eager to engage one hell of a beast, which was unleashed from the back of the Wanderer (not for the faint hearted, this baby), an inflated Zodiac with a midnight black small block, small HP, Mercury donk. After a protracted lesson in physics from our Skipper, the beast was finally set on its way with 3 intrepid travellers on board, Mark, Michelle and Greg. The remaining guests last sight of the trio was Mark feverishly pulling on the go cord whilst yelling help from Larry, with Michelle and Greg rolling over each other laughing hysterically. Rest easy NSWTC members all were reunited with the main vessel after totally embarrassing themselves to the other water users of Refuge Bay! Boy, what dags!
Lunch was served on board, which consisted of cold meats and salads courtesy of the Warrens washed down by whatever drinks were at hand, or close by followed by discussions on what would be liable, contentious and court worthy tales to be told on the website. A beautiful fruit salad (courtesy of Michelle) followed with enough left over to feed whatever tsunami survivors there are in the Pacific basin for decades to come!
Full marks for the day must be given to Michelle Warren who performed one hell of a feat, which will no doubt be recounted by spectators for years to come and passed down from one generation to the next. A perfect spring from the low board of the Wanderer taking in a half turn triple pike with a thumbs up entry into the water with zero splash. This dive was scored unanimously with an ‘8’ for execution and a ‘10’ for entry! Wow, we have some talent in this car club – look out Olympics we have a gold medallist in our midst!
Gobsmacked, it was a very silent trip back to the marina – what else could be said, except a big thank you to Larry and a great social day had by everyone?
