Run Report ....
Berry, Kangaroo Valley and Mittagong, 26 March 2006 ....
The day started-off with us meeting at Leo’s Diner at 9.00am. Following a chat, it was time to hand-out the run sheets. I took the run leader’s job while Les volunteered to be Tail-End-Charlie. The day turned-out to be perfect and for such a long drive, it couldn’t have been any better.
We got away from Leo’s at 9:30am and cruised along the M5 where we exited onto Wilton Road. Moving at a good pace, we continued along Wilton Road to Mt Ousley Road where we joined the Princess Highway and then headed south.
The group stayed nice and tight and were in contact with one another via two-way radio. The trip was enhanced by some great scenery along the way, and one-and-a-half hours from our departure at Leo’s, we had reached Berry, our first stop. This was a welcome break for Greg as he was in dire need of a defuel. Thirty minutes later it was time to head-off to Kangaroo Valley and onto Mittagong.
The run from Berry to Kangaroo Valley was one of the best legs of this run as the road winds through thick rain forest making it some of the best driving roads around, although it was a little bumpy in parts. Without doubt, the scenery along this route is far better than the coast road. (the bike riders do take their lives into their own hands).
The run was going well until Mick’s car started making some funny noises, but on investigation, it turned out to be nothing to worry about so we continued on our way. This section of the road, which took us through Kangaroo Valley, had plenty of traffic but everyone who saw our Toranas just looked at us as we passed by them.
From Kangaroo Valley we headed onto Bowral which took us about an hour. Bowral has 50km speed signs everywhere so you really need to keep your eye on the clock. 10 minutes later we were in Mittagong where we had arranged to park our cars in the carpark at the back of the pub. This was a perfect arrangement as we could see our cars from where we were having lunch. The food was really great and by 2:15pm everyone had finished their lunch (a big thank you to Sheree and her staff).
So, once again, it was back on the road and onto Pheasants Nest where we pulled into the Mobil Servo for one last stop to refuel our cars, say our goodbyes and head for home.
I would like to say thank you to everyone who attended this run today. What a great day we had.
Those who attended: Micheal Aldridge and Lisa (soon to be the bride), John and Ann Morrison, Greg and Lexa Hawkins, Ian Williams, Les Wilson and Bob Byrnes.
Until the next time we have some fun,
Bob.
