Run Report ....
Appin, 29 January 2006 ....
Following a suggestion made on a discussion forum, a group of Torana drivers decided to go for a run down the south coast to the Appin Pub via the new Lawrence Hargrave Drive and the Sea Cliff Bridge. This run was so enjoyable, it encouraged the formation of the NSW Torana Club Inc., and set a benchmark for future runs organised by the Club.
The group met in the McDonalds car park, next to the Liverpool Megacenta, and had breakfast under the watchful eyes of the occupants of several Police cars that were eating there as well.
Bob Byrnes had scouted the run route beforehand, and had then drawn up a detailed run sheet. Copies were distributed to all the group ensuring that if anyone became separated, they would be able to find their way to the next planned stop. Thanks from all of us for this Bob!
The weather was great and we all departed at 9:30am with no dramas at all. Bob led the way along the Hume highway and onto the M5, then we joined Heathcote Rd to cruise through Hammondville, Holsworthy, Sandy Point and so forth until we turned onto the Princes Highway and traveled to Waterfall and onto the F6 Freeway.
Exiting the freeway, we traveled to the Lawrence Hargrave Drive through Stanwell Tops, Coalcliff, Clifton, Scarborough and Wombarra and stopped at Coledale beach for a break. From there we traveled to Thirroul, up Bulli Pass and onto the Appin Road to the Appin Pub for a terrific lunch.
The Pub was our nominated dispersal point, and Bob led us back towards Liverpool, as progressively the participants peeled of the group to head of to their own homes, after spending around 3 fantastic hours on the road driving our Toranas through some of Gods best country.
Participants included: Bob (LH L34), Greg and Lexa (LH SL/R 5000), Les (LJ), John and Anne (LJ), Michael and Lisa (LH SL/R 5000), Ian and Mary (LX SL/R 5000), Dean (LH), Reno (LX SL/R 5000), Steve (LJ XU1), Rob and Pheobe (LX SL/R 5000), Mark and Michelle.
